Critique:
I am a fan of Vin Diesel. When you are in the mood for action and science fiction, I think he has brought some real fun movies to the silver screen. But, when I heard he was doing a drama show rollout, I thought I was in for a real snore of an experience … I was wrong.
The Ropes, a web series that can be seen in six episodes on Netflix now, chronicles a short time in the life of a group of bouncers as they work to protect their club, friends and jobs.
I found the writing to be well thought out and, though not major thespians, the acting was representative enough that you believed these guys walked right off the film lot and went over to the local bar to clock into their second jobs.
Rated as 'NR', this is not a show for the younglings. But is was not gratuitous either. The club life does have its' measure of sex/drugs/violence and the show does not hold back on either. But, for those of you wanting to get a little peak into what the life of the club staff might look like, this is not that far off.
For those interested in a little bare knuckle Deisel … there are some good fight scenes to.
I can't say I went into it looking to stay awake. But, I watched all six episodes and am looking forward to the next ones.
